| Throughout my entire life I have been interacting with people who have stress and anxiety. My earliest memory as a two year old child was living in a house in Long Beach New York with my parents and there was a big rain storm. I remember them running around like maniacs putting buckets where the water was leaking in from the ceiling and near the windows. Although I didn’t know the word stress when I was two I saw how my parents were stressed out and sometimes this is known as a screen memory or impressionable memory when it happens so early and is remembered. What I learned through much experience is that we as people are not in control of everything. BUT we think we can control our lives and make all the right decisions and when there is a “bump” in the road or a red light ahead we get disappointed and stressed out. When I was working on my Ph.D. in Public Administration I encountered a lot of stress. When I was twenty-three I was recently married, went to Paris to research my doctoral dissertation. The dissertation was on multi-national efforts for a the European Space Research Program. When I went to France I began studying French and many of my interviews were in French. Boy was I stressed out. I thought it was "chutzpah" for a twenty-three year old American who didn’t know French, or his way around Europe taking on a new marriage and pursuing a Ph.D. degree in Europe. There were mornings when I was transcribing my interviews where I was so stressed that I was paralyzed with fear. I didn’t know how to diffuse stress and ended up making a “deal” with myself. If I wrote for 2 hours I had a drink of apricot brandy. Later I started with a Brandy and at the end of two hours gave myself another liquid reward. When I got back to New Jersey and was writing up the dissertation and working as an Assistant Professor at Seton Hall University I still was stressed out about how I was going to get the entire dissertation approved. Remember those were the days before the personal computer and one typed on an electric typewriter. There was one day when I had a vision of completing my dissertation, I could literally see how to write the theory chapter, my body relaxed, and I knew I would complete the project. What I didn’t know then was that I had a mind/body experience that allowed me to get around the fear, see the result, and take action. Within half a year of that experience I had my Ph.D. approved from the Maxwell School of Syracuse University. I work with people who are stressed out as a psychotherapist and a coach and developed a number of strategies for them to move beyond the stress. But the critical moment came in June of 2003 when I was walking with my wife in a street fair in NYC on Park Avenue South. There was a woman from Tibet who was playing and selling Tibetan Bowls. As soon as I saw the bowl I had a vision that the music and vibration from the bowl would open a portal to the mind/body connection and I purchased one. I then imported them by the 100’s from Katmandu and give specialty seminars for EMDR therapists on how to use the bowl in the context of EMDR therapy. Later on I gave a few seminars to coaches showing them how to use the bowls. AND Now I am making this technology/technique available to therapists, coaches, reike masters, massage therapists, body workers, counselors, ministers and the GENERAL PUBLIC. You can become the master of your own stress and learn how to de-stress yourself in any situation. |
